As a Choice Theory & Reality Therapy Certified Therapist, Alan also subscribes to an eclectic model i.e., Behavioural, Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Post-Modern Approaches, specifically to arrive at a Solution Architecture.
Alan’s areas of interest are in Organisational & Career Guidance, Mentoring & Coaching Equity Owners & Senior Management Team, Suicidal Ideation, Depression, Anxiety, Phobia, Terminal Illness, LGBTQIA+ & Infectious Disease and Substance Abuse. Some of the tools that he uses are therapeutic art, sand tray, sensory bag, music therapy and therapy cards.
He also designs and conducts Adventure Based Therapies & self-development training program with overnight stay at retreat centres, regionally for senior management staff.
In collaboration with Careersense, HELP University, he has assisted in the reviewing of counselling terms for Program Latihan Khidmat Negara (PLKN – National Service) and the setting up of counselling centres in Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam dan Darat (SPAD) during the tenure of Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar. Previously, Alan volunteered in Malaysian Care, Prison, Drugs and Aids and children’s home for the under-privileged. Consequently, he has also assisted in running career and personality-related programs in HELP University.
Formerly an experienced banker with over 15 years working in both local and international banking institutions in Malaysia and Taiwan, Alan’s areas of expertise are in the field of organisational restructuring, business re-engineering, positioning and strategic planning. He has led many local, regional and global initiatives in product development and strategic planning.
In addition to the above, Alan’s other competencies are in Transactional Banking, Forward Commodity Financing, Alternate Risk Financing and Fraud Detection. Through the years, Alan has led Relationship Management and Product Development teams and was made the signatory for Malaysia to the revision in Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP) 600 which came into force in 2007.
Alan is also an advisor to financial institutions locally and abroad, and has exposure in the technology sector.
Alan is proficient in English, Bahasa Malaysia, and has a basic command of Hokkien, Cantonese and Mandarin.
